Canadian Government’s Community-Based Measures to Mitigate the Spread of Covid-19
We ask you to help us slow down the spread of Covid-19 by following these recommendations:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Regularly clean and disinfect ‘high touch’ areas in your home and office.
- Cough and sneeze into a tissue or your shirt sleeve rather than your hands and promptly dispose of used tissues in the wastebasket, ideally first putting them into a sealed plastic bag.
- As much as possible, avoid touching your face.
- The Provincial Government is recommending against all non-essential travel outside of Canada, including to the United States. Effective March 12, anyone who chooses to travel outside of Canada will be asked to stay away from work or school for 14 days upon their return.
- Practice social distancing and avoid contact with people that are visibly ill.
- Stay home if you are sick and experiencing flu symptoms, particularly a fever and a dry cough.
- If you think you may have symptoms of coronavirus, self-isolate and call 811 for an assessment.
We are in very uncertain times at present and some of these asks may be difficult for you and your family to do. However, by taking these preventive steps now, we can help to contain the spread of COVID-19. It is our collective responsibility to follow these measures and protect the health of our family, friends, neighbours and the broader community.
What else can we do to help support each other? Here are some ideas:
- If you have elderly neighbours or know of people who are self-isolating, offer to help with any errands or grocery shopping.
- Phone friends or family who you haven’t spoken to recently to reconnect.
- Send messages of appreciation to people you know who are working tirelessly to care for the sick and elderly and to those who are working hard to slow the spread of this virus.
- While the sun is shining, enjoy the outdoors – take walks, ride bikes, or find a quiet place to simply sit and appreciate how fortunate we are to live is such a beautiful place.
- Spread kindness: smile and share a kind word with those you meet. This can go a long way to relieving the anxiety so many of us are feeling at the moment.
We are all in this together! We may need to increase our physical distance from each other for the short term, but let’s take this as an opportunity to challenge ourselves to find creative ways to become closer in spirit – now, and for the long term.
Sincerely,
Parkgate Society Management Team
