Welcome to the month of May!
We hope that you and your families are keeping well. At Parkgate Society, we are feeling much more acclimatized to this new way of living and working and; as such, we have been able to adjust our programming and services to meet the community needs arising out of the current situation. (Of course, things are still evolving by the day and we will endeavour to continue adapting the way we work in order to best serve our community.)
While the doors of Parkgate Community Centre may be closed, we still have quite a variety of great activities and services happening online and some in person. Please be sure to bookmark our website to find out about all the programs and services we are offering this month. Note: we update these pages almost daily so be sure to check back regularly!
Here’s a sample of what’s happening….
Parkgate Families & Children Connect – offering a wide variety of activities for children of all ages and resources for parents including weekly Mothergoose and Parent Chats on Zoom.
Schools Out Program – live chats every Monday and Tuesday for children in grades 4 – 7.
Parkgate Youth Connect – offering live chats daily throughout the week and as well as the facilitating a 6 week YMCA Teen Mindfulness Program for youth 13 – 17, starting later this month.
Parkgate Seniors Connect – offering a variety of live virtual programs throughout the week, pre-recorded online fitness classes, plus a weekly meal service (every Tuesday and alternating Wednesdays). These meals are made possible by the generous support of PARC Cedar Springs, Neptune Terminals, Seaspan, and Vancouver Coastal Health.
Online Dementia Services – offering new virtual “My Parkgate Break” programs posted every Tuesday and Thursday for people with mild to moderate dementia as well as a series of “Brain and Body Fitness” videos with our popular fitness instructor, Gail Roxburgh.
Wishing you all good health, happiness, and a sense of social connectedness (but at an appropriate physical distance)! We miss seeing you all at Parkgate but please know that we are still here for you and while we continue our virtual programming, we look forward to the day when we can once again welcome you through our doors.
